Remember The Sabbath

November 23, 2009 at 9:44 am (Uncategorized)

Lately I’ve been reading through Exodus learning from the amazing leadership of Moses. God is teaching me incredible things and I’m learning a ton of new things. Then I come to the part in Exodus that is one of the most well-known parts of the bible among even non-believers: The Ten Commandments.

It was here, in the the most common of scriptures, that God really shook me up. As Christians we think of the 10 Commandments as the “basic” instructions of God. Yet it is surprising how many of these commandments Christians don’t follow on a regular basis. I’m guilty! Most Christians have down the commandments like “do not murder” and “do not steal.” But what about, “Remember The Sabbath?”

Right now I’m speaking to myself and all others who work in the ministry. Especially those in portable church. Sunday is the sabbath for many people, but for those who work in the ministry it is very much a work day. Don’t get me wrong, Sunday is an amazing day of worship where we connect with God and see life change. It’s my favorite day of the week by far. But we need a day during the week without set-up, sound check, and all the stress where we allow God to speak into us. It’s through these times that God moves in our hearts and prepares us to lead others on Sunday. For me personally it is vital to have that entire day of rest during the week to have with my family and to worship God without any distraction. I’m realizing how incredibly important this is, but too often I forsake it. We will be more energized and passionate to lead others on Sunday when we remember the Sabbath in our own lives during the week.

Black Light Creative Element

October 28, 2009 at 8:42 am (Uncategorized)

Here’s some pics of a creative element we used during the final week of “Forgiveness: The Real F Word.” This was done to Coldplay’s “Fix You.” As the song started out the board was completely blank. Throughout the song sins were spray painted on the board in black light spray paint. When the song reached the famous breakdown build, red spray paint spelled out Jesus. At that moment it wasn’t clear what the word was due to all the other sins on the board. When the song reached the peak of the instrumental breakdown, the lights came on with the crash of the song and everything disappeared except the name of Jesus in red.

This was a powerful creative element that symbolized something we all deal with. Sin fills up our life to the point to where Jesus is not seen. When we embrace the love and forgiveness of Jesus, His name removes all other sin to where it no longer exists in our lives. It is only through His bloodshed that could be accomplished. The goal of this element was to paint that picture of Jesus’ forgiveness in a visual element that everyone would remember.

The Greatness Of Jesus

October 14, 2009 at 9:30 am (Uncategorized)

The scripture below is the last one in all of the gospels. It summarizes in one statement the greatness of Jesus:

“Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” John 21:25

Think about the truth and the power in that statement. And to know that He lives in us. I pray that the earth can’t even hold what is written about the greatness of God at Freedom Church in Acworth, Georgia. Yes, that’s a bold prayer and may even sound arrogant, but I believe in the power of God that much. Pray that prayer for your church and your own life. Jesus said, “You may ask for anything in my name, and I will do it.” Scripture also says, “You have not, because You ask not.” Lets ask God to do what can only be explained by His power; what can only happen by asking in the name of Jesus.
